About us:
Art Deco Jewelers Inc. is a family owned business with three generations of experience in the jewelry industry.  We travel around the world buying jewelry from various estates, auctions and marketplaces.  We are antique and estate buyers specializing in antique and vintage jewelry.  We recently purchased a large estate containing jewelry from the 1930’s throughout the 1950’s.  Each piece is guaranteed to be unique, original and antique.  These works of art required several dies or molds to fabricate a single piece of jewelry.  Such complicated pieces would be cost prohibitive to manufacture today.  Much of the estate contained antique palladium jewelry. Each palladium piece of jewelry has been properly tested and guaranteed to be palladium. Palladium is a rare and precious metal belonging to the platinum group of metals also including
iridium, rhodium, osmium and ruthenium
.
Similar to platinum, palladium is rare and also exhibits a unique tarnish resistant property.
All of our jewelry has been authenticated by a professional appraiser. We provide a written appraisal by our GIA graduate gemologist.   All appraisals are furnished upon request.  We offer a 100% money back guarantee with each purchase.  Your satisfaction is guaranteed. Art Deco Jewelers has been a well respected seller on eBay since 1996.  Please feel free to review our feedback for references.
History of palladium:
Oddly enough palladium, unlike platinum, makes up a small chapter in the history of jewelry.  Although William Hyde Wollaston and Smithson Tennant correctly identified palladium as a new element in 1802, it was not commonly used in jewelry until World War II.  In 1939, platinum was declared a strategic metal and reserved for military use therefore vaulting palladium as its replacement.
Palladium use was not restricted and was soon promoted in the jewelry industry as a practical alternative to platinum.
In comparison to platinum, palladium was lighter in weight (making it more comfortable to wear) and quite malleability (making stone setting easier). Despite these advantages, palladium was gradually phased out after World War II when platinum became available again.
Most of the palladium jewelry fabricated during the mid 1940’s in the U.S. is not visible in today’s estate jewelry market. Why did palladium jewelry mysteriously disappear? One thing to consider is that jewelry made in the U.S. was not always marked to indicate its metal content and fineness.
It is quite possible that some palladium jewelry is mistakenly being sold as platinum today. In addition, a large amount of palladium jewelry from the 1940s and 1950s was dismantled and sent to refineries after the war. With soaring gold prices, palladium jewelry has become popular once again!
